Research suggests that a grateful disposition is rooted in the basic traits of empathy and resilience. A 2020 study in the Current Psychology Journal examined the relationship between empathy, resilience, and gratitude showing significant positive correlations between the three. Gratitude, empathy, and resilience is described to promote life satisfaction, well-being, positive beliefs, creativity, as well as minimize the risk of depression and anxiety. People with high levels of gratitude, empathy, and resilience have been found to be optimistic and possess an energetic, curious, and open approach to new life experiences. Gratitude, empathy, and resilience is associated with lower risk of stress and significant benefits to a person’s overall physical, mental, and spiritual health.
